History of the Post-it note
The entire credit goes to Dr. Spencer Silver & Arthur Fry – the scientists at 3M in the United
States – who inadvertently invented a pressure sensitive adhesive in the year 1968. But this product was not finding the commercial usage and hence failed to gain any market approval. But in the year 1974, one of the colleagues Arthur Fry, put forth the idea of using this glue as a bookmark in his book and thus, this revolutionary product was born. Even the original color – yellow – was incorporated because the post-it team had scrap paper which was yellow in color! This product was launched in the year 1977, but again it was not accepted in the market. Then 3M distributed free samples to consumers in Boise and Idaho and got the positive response. Finally, this product was re-launched on the 6th day of April, 1980 under the brand name ‘Post-It Notes‘! (more…)
