Non-reproducing ("non-photo") blue is a light blue that scanners and copiers don't pick up, so your grid guidelines vanish in the final copy — perfect for layout, drafting, and design work. Our Non-Repro Blue line color mirrors the real stock Captain Notepad prints, so your on-screen design matches what ships.
Getting the best print

Is the graph paper generator free to use?
Yes. Designing your paper and downloading a print-ready PDF, PNG, or SVG is completely free, with no account required.
What grid types can I create?
You can create standard square, engineering (5x5 and 10x10), dot, isometric, hexagonal, polar, and lined grids, and adjust spacing, line weight, and color for each.
Can I add my own logo and contact information to the paper?
Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG, or SVG logo, and add your contact details as text — company name, phone, license number, or email. Position each with a drag or a preset, and both are embedded in every export.
What file formats can I download?
You can export a print-ready PDF, a high-resolution PNG rendered at 300 DPI, or a scalable SVG. You can also print directly from your browser.
What is non-repro blue and why would I use it?
Non-repro (non-reproducing) blue is a light blue grid that many scanners and copiers do not pick up, so your drawn work reproduces cleanly without the grid lines. It is the default color in the generator.
What is engineering paper?
Engineering paper is a grid pad with a fine sub-grid and heavier reference lines every inch, used for drafting, calculations, and technical field notes. Many versions print the grid on the back so it shows faintly through the sheet for cleaner scans.
Can Captain Notepad print my design on real pads?
Yes. Once you have a design you like, Captain Notepad can print it on real padded sheets with your grid and logo, produced in-house at our Denver facility. Contact us for a custom quote.
Do I need any software to use the generator?
No. The generator runs entirely in your web browser on desktop or mobile. Nothing needs to be installed.
What paper weight do you use for printed engineering pads?
Our printed engineering and graph pads use heavier 50 lb. offset paper that holds technical pen and pencil without bleed-through, backed with rigid chipboard for field use.
Is there a minimum order for custom printed pads?
Custom pads are made to order around your specifications — grid type, size, paper weight, branding, and quantity. Contact us with your quantity and we will provide a custom quote and bulk pricing.
Can I get a specific grid ratio or spacing on printed pads?
Yes. We match grid ratios to real drafting and field-note standards rather than arbitrary big-box sizing, and we can print the exact spacing you design in the generator.
What is the difference between using the free tool and ordering printed pads?
The free tool gives you a print-ready file you print yourself at home or the office. Ordering printed pads gets you professionally manufactured, padded sheets on heavier stock with your logo, made in Denver and shipped to you.

Will my logo look sharp when the pad is printed?
